Dr. Ilka May is the CEO of LocLab.

For almost two decades, Dr. Ilka May has been involved with spatial data and technologies. Until 2017 she worked for the international engineering firm Arup in the UK. In Germany, she led the development of the road map "Digital Design and Construction" on behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure in 2015. Until 2017, she was co-chair of the EU BIM Task Group, before she was significantly involved in updating the BIM strategy of Deutsche Bahn, which has since been published. In addition to Deutsche Bahn, her consulting mandates also include the State Construction Management of Lower Saxony, HOCHBAHN Hamburg, Hamburg Water and the government of Lithuania. Until recently, she was also a member of various committees for the standardisation of the construction industry at European and national level (CEN, DIN, VDI, BSI).

Ilka May studied geography at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main before she received her doctorate at the Technical University of Berlin in the field of physical geography, specialising in GIS. During her stay abroad in London she acquired further professional qualifications such as Chartered Geographer in GIS as well as Project (PRINCE2) and Programme Management (MSP) Practitioner Status. In 2015 she completed an Arup University Smart Cities Master's Module, an executive education programme with Imperial College Business School.
